Two sports clubs from Felixstowe have taken part in an inter-club challenge match to launch the fundraising drive for a brand new clubhouse.
Felixstowe Hockey Club ladies and Felixstowe Cricket Club men played each other in a hockey challenge match on Friday night, held at Felixstowe Academy. The Cricket Club came off 2-0 winners.
The match was the first in a series of initiatives between the two clubs to raise funds for the new joint pavilion hopefully to be built on the Felixstowe Academy site within in the next two years.
The new building, part of Suffolk Coastal District Council’s plan to create a series of sports ‘hubs’ in the town, is being jointly funded by the council, national sporting bodies and the two clubs, and is planned to be built on the current Felixstowe Academy site, to which the Cricket Club will be moving.
Hayley Rose, fundraising secretary for Felixstowe Hockey Club, who captained the FHC Ladies team said: “Although many of the cricket players hadn’t played hockey before they gave us a really good game! Members and players from both clubs turned out to support the game and it was brilliant to get to know more people from the Cricket Club as we move towards sharing the new building.
Both clubs are going to be working hard over the next year to raise the fundraising total we’ve been set to make the new pavilion a reality, and we really look forward to the re-match!”
