Over 120 members of Felixstowe Hockey Club gathered on Friday night (11th May) to celebrate the season’s achievements at the annual end of season dinner and awards event.
The big winners on the evening were the Ladies 1st team, winning team of the year. The ladies have been promoted to the East League for the first time in the Club’s history following their 2nd place finish in the Suffolk Premier. 14 year-old Maddison Taylor, who played such an influential part in the achievement, was named female Youth player of the Year. Poppy Fletcher was chosen as Ladies 1st team player of the Year.
Other notable winners include Luke Rudd, who was named Club Person of the Year for his dedication and commitment towards the set-up of the new Felixstowe Sports Hub Trust and planned hockey and cricket pavilion.
Sophie Goodhand and Thomas Walker were recognised for their seamless move from youth hockey to senior hockey this season with youth development awards, and 15 year-old Sam Wash, who has played a full season with the men’s 1st team, was named male Young player of the Year.
Steve Taylor was selected by Ken Green for the President’s award after over 30 years of dedication to the club.
Katie Thompson was given the Kyle Donnelly award in honour of her success as social secretary this season and her commitment to coaching right up until a week before she gave birth.
Chairman Jeremy Rennie gave out awards with assistance from outgoing Mayor of Felixstowe Nick Barber. He said of the evening:
“Felixstowe Hockey Club is a special place with some fantastic people, all of whom deserve to be celebrated and awarded for everything they do to make this one of the most successful sports clubs in our town. It has been an incredible season and we are very much looking forward to next season coming around to see if we can better it!”
