The best of Felixstowe hockey celebrated at awards evening

The Mayor of Felixstowe, Doreen Savage, was on hand to give out the awards at Felixstowe Hockey Club’s annual awards evening.

The awards were held to celebrate the best talent at the club, as well as to raise funds to ensure the success of the club continues.

The hotly contested ‘young player of the year’ awards were given to Sophie Leigh-Pearson and Jay Steward, both of whom enjoyed a successful season and are pivotal members of the ladies and men’s 3rd XI respectively.

Matthew Walker was named Club person of the year for his work in overseeing all 3 men’s teams as well as organising weekly training for players, whilst Jeremy Rennie was given the President’s award for his involvement in the club over the last decade.

Other awards included:

  • Ladies player of the year – Alex Leigh-Pearson
  • Mens 1st XI player of the year – James Walker
  • Men’s 2nd XI player of the year – Harry Brook-Rowland
  • Men’s 3rd XI player of the year – Paul Ellis

The new season starts this weekend when Felixstowe ladies take on Christchurch ladies at Orwell High School with push back at 1.00pm.
