Felixstowe youth players of the year announced at hockey Christmas celebration

Felixstowe Hockey Club announced its youth players of the year at the weekend, in a ceremony which formed part of the annual youth Christmas party.

Felixstowe Hockey Club’s youth section has grown at a really fast rate in 2011 as the club place more emphasis on growing from grassroots, and now has 35 young people signed up. Youth training takes part on a Saturday morning at the astro turf on the Maidstone Campus of Felixstowe Academy (formerly Orwell High).

The youth section is split into two ages groups; the under 16s and the under 11s and awards were given to the male and female players of the year for both age groups.

Winners of the under-16 category were Kate Trudgett and Jamie King, and the under-11 winners were Finlay Stack and Gaby Spalding. Runners up were Thomas Walker, Harry Keegan, Sophie Goodhand and Jessica Ozane.

Felixstowe Hockey Club’s youth coach Kirsty Seymour said: “The young players should be very proud of themselves. They have all improved leaps and bounds and are so committed to improving their skills. These players really are the stars of the future! It was lovely to see our clubhouse full of happy children and parents and we hope they enjoyed themselves as much as we did. Here’s to an even better 2012!”
