Mens Selection Policy – 2010/2011

Principles
The selection policy for mens hockey at Felixstowe will support the following three principles:

  1. All team players have a fair opportunity to play at the highest level that they wish
  2. Team Captains are not unduly burdened beyond their current duties
  3. Team Captains are free to select the players that they believe are best suited for their team

Supporting the principles: Player mobility
To support these principles, it is recommended that the men’s structure supports the notion of “player mobility”. That is, a payer is no longer considered to belong to a team, but, instead, to have the freedom to be “mobile” between teams. This needs a fundamental change to mindset, particularly around the sensitive nature of moving down a team. The goal here should be that players who are experiencing a temporary dip in form, or are carrying an injury, should feel that playing for a lower team is a positive move for all involved. This will also create the opportunities for new players to play in higher teams.

This will require that teams share similar ethos, coaching and playing patterns and standards.

Selection Policy

        Process

  1. Non-payment of match fees will result in de-selection
  2. Team captains to circulate “likely” team selection asap following each Saturday match, highlighting IN PARTICULAR those players which are “probables”, and those which are “possible” (recipients: Team Captains; Club Captain)
  3. Team selection to take place IMMEDIATELY following training on a Tuesday night
  4. Any player moving DOWN between teams MUST be given verbal explanation by the “losing” Captain (i.e. the 2nd team Captain MUST give a verbal explanation to a player in the instance of that player moving down from 2nd team to 3rd team)
  5. Any player “just missing out” on moving up a team SHOULD be given verbal explanation by the Captain of the team for which the player was “nearly” selected. (i.e. if a player was considered for selection to the 1st team, but wasn’t actually selected, then the 1st team Captain SHOULD give a verbal explanation to that player)
  6. Team captains to notify Club Captain of any players “missing out” due to this process

        Grievance

  1. If a player is unhappy with selection, they should approach the appropriate team captain(s) in the first instance and try and resolve the issue. Team Captains and players to be open and honest in discussions.
  2.  If the situation is not resolved, the player should contact the Club Captain who will try and resolve the situation.

Players should also note the club-wide grievance policy
