*Short list announced for Felixstowe Hockey Club young player of the year*
Felixstowe Hockey Club has announced its shortlists for the male and female
young player of the year title, the results of which will be announced at
the club’s annual dinner dance and awards ceremony at the Orwell Hotel in
Felixstowe on 9th September.
Six young Felixstowe players have been short listed for their contributions
to their respective teams during the past season, as well as for their
continued development. The award is for players 18 or under.
For the male title, the shortlist has been revealed as Will Jewkes, Jay
Steward and George Kemp. Both Will and Jay were key members of the
men’s 3rdXI which gained promotion this season whilst George has
broken into the 1st
XI this season.
The female nominees include last year’s winner Abi Jewkes who has also been
named ‘player of the summer league’ which was an 8-week friendly league run
throughout June and July. The other nominees are sisters Sophie and Alex
Leigh-Pearson who were joint winners of the 'most improved' title in the
summer league.
Other awards that will be given out on the night include the selection of a
player of the year from each team and an award for a club member of the
year.
Felixstowe Hockey Club is a friendly and welcoming club for all ages and
abilities.
There are 3 men’s teams and one ladies team, and home games and training
takes place on the astro turf at Orwell High School. The season runs from
September to March, and training takes place every Tuesday night. The club
is always looking for new members, of all skill levels and ages.
The clubhouse is located on Dellwood Avenue and is open on Saturdays from
11am – 11pm to members and guests, with specially arranged social events on selected weekends during the season.
