It’s another huge congratulations to Felixstowe Hockey Club member Oscar Newton for achieving his Level 2 Umpire Award and being nominated to the National Young Umpire Panel. As an U20 this really is a huge achievement.
Oscar completed his Level 1 Umpire Award at Felixstowe back in 2021, his assessment delayed due to “Covid” and was told at the time that he could reach higher levels in umpiring if he so wished to.
Whilst away at University Oscar has been continuing to follow the Umpiring Pathway and has been officiating games up to and including in the Premiership.
Oscar has maintained his connection with Felixstowe Hockey Club with a “Remote Student Membership” whilst he studies away at University in the Midlands and is a welcome addition to the pitch and club house when back home during the holidays.
You will see Oscar and his whistle but hopefully not his cards! back out on the pitch during Summer League.
Umpiring is a great way to get more involved in Hockey, gain a greater understanding of the rules and as a bonus earn a little money. It can be as much or as little of a commitment as you want.
England Hockey are currently running courses online. Further information can be found here.
From everyone at the club, well done.
