Members of Felixstowe Hockey Club successfully complete a Level 3 Sports First Aid Course earlier in the month.
First Aid is an essential skill, its value has been a life saver on the hockey pitch in Suffolk this year.
England Hockey recommend that there is a minimum of one First Aid trained person per match or training session. Anyone completing First Aid Training should attend a certified Emergency First Aid Course lasting a minimum of three hours that includes practical CPR.
Felixstowe Hockey Club recognises the importance of providing a Safe Hockey Environment and ensuring adequate First Aid provision is just one important aspect of this.
As such Felixstowe Hockey Club have started investing in Level 3 Sports First Aid courses which are more comprehensive and go above and beyond the minimum recommendations of England Hockey with the aim of ensuring that at least Two First Aiders are available at each match or training session. Not only does this provide knowledgeable support should an incident happen but also additional cover should the First Aider be the one to get injured.
Topics covered in additional to Basic Life Support, Defibrillation and CPR included bleeding, breaks, heart related illness, asthma and much more.

DEFIBRILLATOR
Research has shown that deploying a defibrillator within 3–5 minutes of collapse can produce survival rates as high as 50–70%. Every minute really does count.
Felixstowe Hockey Club are actively looking into our options to getting a defibrillator closer to the pitch. If you are able to support the club with this please get in touch.
WHAT3WORDS - The simplest way to talk about location
Street addresses aren’t accurate enough to specify precise locations, such as building entrances, and don’t exist for parks and many rural areas. This makes it hard to find places and prevents people from describing exactly where help is needed in an emergency.
That’s why what3words was created. The world is divided into 3 metre squares and each square has a unique combination of three words. It’s the easiest way to find and share exact locations.
