The visitors were the previously undefeated Colchester 4s. (P6 W5 D1 L0)

The message before the game was clear. Let's end that run today. From the PB Felixstowe pushed Colchester back into their own half. The midfield "brick wall" that is Mave lapped up all their attacks laying off passes at will to Austin and Sid on either wing, who found Bill, Tom B, Alex and Charlie in plenty of space up top.

After a few chances Felixstowe were awarded their first short corner which was quickly dispatched by Bill W to give them the lead after 10 minutes.More Felixstowe pressure followed and the constant thorn in Colchester's side Tom Bannister doubled the lead on 20mins. Much to the Colchester's CB disapproval who let out an outburst to his side. Having not lost all season the shock of being 2nil down must have suddenly hit home. They were in a game!

As Felixstowe pushed for a 3rd they were caught on the break by one of Colchester's quick and skillful full wingers. He evaded the whole of the Felixstowe midfield and defence, as he approached the D it was a 2 on 1 chance. Pondy came steaming out to save the day, knocking the ball clear. It turned out to be Colchester's only real chance of the half.

Felixstowe went on to add another 2 goals before half time. A well worked short corner routine saw Callum take a well taken goal at the near post having injected the corner himself in 30mins. Tom Bannister then grabbed his second of the game slotting home from close range from another well worked Felixstowe attack. To see the home side go in 4 nil up at half time.

The half time chat was simple. Keep going, don't change anything. Let's put the likely shell shocked Colchester side to the sword and send a statement to the rest of the league.

To be fair to Colchester, they started the 2nd half with a point to prove and looked to try to get on the front foot. After a while though normal service resumed, Felixstowe got back into their stride. Charlie T, Alex and Tom Bannister and Bill W got into some great positions and quickly, allowing passes from the back in midfield to find them in space at ease. Heaping more pressure on the already tired Colchester back line.

A further 3 well worked goals from Bill (2 to complete another hatrick hero performance) and Austin B saw Felixstowe establish a 7 goal lead in the second half. To their credit though Colchester kept trying to amount attacks of their own and after 65 minutes, their only real chance of the 2nd half was converted. An awkward miss hit bobble cross from the right hand side evaded not 1 but 3 Felixstowe defenders and the hard working Colchester winger was left to slot home at the back post, past a greatly exposed Pondy, who could do nothing but rightly shout at his rather hapless (and "wrong stocked" in this instance) defenders!

Although it was disappointing to not keep the clean sheet. Come the final whistle it was a 7-1 victory to Felixstowe 3rd XI and the statement to the rest of the league was made!Colchester had suffered their first defeat, and Felixstowe had moved up to 2nd above them in the table on goals scored. With results elsewhere within the league creating a 5 point cushion between the top 3 come 6pm, the 3s are slowly building momentum as the league heads into the colder months.

MOTM- Tom Bannister whose electric pace was a constant thorn in Colchester's side and who found himself in every corner of the pitch at one stage or another and rightly rewarded with 2 goals of his own.
