A bright, crisp afternoon match at Ipswich for the men's 4th team today, facing their 5th team who put out an experienced team, determined to win.

The game had only just got going when an Ipswich player took a tumble and landed awkwardly on his arm. He was driven to hospital with a suspected dislocated shoulder - let's hope he is ok and on the way to recovery.

Felixstowe then got down to business, soaking up a few Ipswich attacks with ease, then launching some of their own. Felixstowe were in control of the game, plenty of chances were created, and finally one was put away by Charlie Burton, five minutes before the break. Felixstowe were playing expansive hockey, stretching the pitch wide, and therefore creating the space needed for those killer passes into the attacking line of Codie, Shane and Austin. The defensive line was high, indeed defence started high up the pitch with Marcus constantly harrying the Ipswich players, refusing to let them settle on the ball. In the defensive line, Mark Spicer proved his worth yet again with numerous crucial tackles and a relentless work-rate.

That work-rate was matched by the halves, rotating amongst Jasper, Felix, Matt and James (H), who all provided an attacking outlet and dictated the shape of play. In goal, Foggy wasn't troubled much in the first half, but when he was, he was his usual exemplary self and thwarted all attempts to score.

The second half forced Felixstowe to face directly into the late afternoon sun, which caused some defensive problems, and Ipswich managed to scrape a goal back. Then in the spirit of the development game, a Felixstowe player honestly informed the umpire that an awarded 16 was actually a long corner, and Ipswich profited by scoring, making it 2-1 to the home team. Felixstowe heads dropped a bit, but were determined to get something out of the game, and following some high pressing, won a short corner. Marcus striked a good shot, but it was saved. However, he didn't give up, and slotted home the rebound. A worthy man-of-the-match performance, scoring the equaliser!

Final score 2-2 - a fair result in the end.
